How to get your kids sleep on time

As children get older, of course, it becomes much more exciting to stay awake than it does to go to sleep. Many young children have the idea that they are missing something every time they go to sleep. Adults simply have endless fun when they're awake, while the child is stuck with boring old sleep. Of course, this isn't true, but this is something that children go through to at least some extent for the most part.

The best way to make sure children go to bed without much trouble is to establish a regular routine. Follow the routine every night. For example, perhaps just after dinner, it's time for bath. Once the child is in pajamas and ready for bed, some quiet playtime with toys in his or her room is to follow, followed by bedtime story, tucking in with stuffed animals or favorite blanket, and lights out.

Most children also go through periods when they experience nightmares or the monster under the bed. Again, this is usually pretty normal. Because young children sleep comparatively more than adults do as well and the line between imagination and reality is necessarily blurred at that age, sometimes sleep and wake patterns are much closer together for them, especially at night, so they may be dreaming awake for some of what the experience. Again, if this is true, simply being soothing and reassuring, while making sure that the child knows he or she needs to stay in bed, is the best way to handle this.

For some babies just home from the hospital, especially if premature, they may suffer from sleep apnea. The parents who bring these infants home are required to go through courses for CPR, and many are also trained in the use of monitors for children so that they can be instantly alerted if babies stop breathing. This is a common cause for the disorder known as crib death, and such babies will likely be put on monitors so that parents will be alerted immediately if the baby should stop breathing. Simply nudging the baby or rubbing his or her back is usually enough to get these little ones who just aren't quite old enough to know better to breathe on their own again.

By the time children are about six months old, the most acute danger for death has passed, with two years generally considered a safe age for no longer being at risk for this disorder. Your doctor will be able to tell you when your child no longer needs to be monitored for sleep apnea.

Find - What is insomnia?

If you are showing signs of difficulty in sleeping and the problem doesn’t seem to be getting any better after a week or more, you must consult your doctor. Doctor’s have the answers to this problem and can prescribe the necessary treatment to help you out. Insomnia is a sleep disorder that causes a person to have difficulty in falling asleep. It involves poor sleeping habits like sudden midnight awakenings, waking up early and a general feeling of discontentment.

Sleep disorders like insomnia often come about for a number of reasons. It may be because of a sudden change in your body as you start to get older or it may be a change in lifestyle or a new medication you have been taking. Any of these changes can first affect your mood and then affect your sleep. After that, you may begin to experience low productivity during the day. These and other factors can really be a big burden if you are trying to get a good night’s sleep.

The average person spends almost 30 % of their life sleeping. Any lack of this could pose some health risks but knowing about insomnia can help to break the cycle and lead you to search for ways to cure it. One of the most helpful things to know about insomnia is the different levels that can be experienced and which ones really require the help of a trained doctor to overcome.

Insomnia actually happens over three different levels and the third level is the most serious of them all. Transient or mild insomnia only lasts for a short number of days and there is usually minimal evidence of any physical problem during the waking hours. Short term or moderate insomnia, however, is more serious and is characterized by fatigue and irritability over a period of roughly one month. Once a person has reached this level of insomnia, it really is imperative that they seek professional help. Chronic or severe insomnia involves a sleep difficulty that lasts for a month or more and it causes severe malfunctioning throughout the day leading to irritability, fatigue, anxiety and restlessness.

Whatever kind of insomnia it is, it is definitely not good for your health. These difficulties all lead to more serious cases of stress and depression, severe headaches and low productivity. They affect your mental functioning and cause you to be ineffective in your focus and your concentration. Heart disease, high blood pressure and any number of driving accidents can all be a result of Insomnia. It may arise at any time and in any manner. Your mode of living is a common factor affecting it and this may involve the most simple thing like a problem with your spouse or your loved one.

Insomnia can be avoided, however, by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and by developing good sleeping habits. It can also be remedied with a number of medications that are available on the market today. People should be aware of, not only the sleeping drugs, but the options for going the natural way such as herbal supplements and aromatics. Many people find that simply putting a little more effort and care into their scheduling of sleep can make all the difference. Insomnia causes us to do less than what we can actually are capable of so it is important to really make an effort to set aside some sleep for ourselves once we have gotten off schedule. Everything else should fall into place from there. Then we won’t tend to get worse and we will stop the cycle.

Some foods cause insomnia

If you do not eat food properly before going to bed, it may lead to insomnia. Doctors of traditional Chinese medicine remind that, a reasonable and proper diet before bed is beneficial to human health. In the following passage, we will introduce some kinds of food which may cause insomnia if you eat too much before going to bed.

Alcohol: Many people think alcohol has a sedative effect, so it can help people relax the mind and body. In fact, alcohol will prevent the body from entering into REM (rapid eye movement) deep sleep stage, thus affecting the sleeping quality or even leading to insomnia. As a result, do not drink alcohol before you go to bed.

Cheese: Nutrition experts point out that, cheese contains a large number of tyrosine. Tyrosine can help produce a lot of dopamine in human body, while dopamine is a kind of neurotransmitter in the brain, which will make the brain more clearly and make it more difficult for people to fall asleep.

Spicy food: Eating too much spicy food at supper can lead to sleep problems. If the patients who suffer from heartburn eat spicy food at supper, it will make the disease much worse after they lie down, thus affecting their sleep. As a result, experts suggest people should not eat too much spicy food at supper.

Caffeine drinks: As we all know, over the years, caffeine has been considered as the main culprit which may lead to insomnia. Nutrition experts from United States also point out that, although caffeine will not add any energy to the body, it is indeed a stimulus, which may increase the alertness of human body and result in sleep difficulties.

Processed or smoked meat: Experts point out, processed or smoked meat contains a lot of tyrosine, which will promote the brain to produce a large number of dopamine. Dopamine can make human body excited, and disrupt the sleep. In addition, processed or smoked meat is the unhealthiest junk food.

Ginseng tea: Some herbal tea has the effect of promoting sleep, but you'd better not add ginseng in the tea. Some people may not have any reaction after drinking ginseng tea, but others may suffer from insomnia and high blood pressure. Experts suggest that it is best not drink ginseng tea within a few hours before you go to bed.
